Vietnam boosts South Korean friendship

HA NOI (VNS)— The Republic of Korea – Viet Nam Friendship Association should take full advantage of its role to strengthen the two countries' friendship, President Truong Tan Sang said yesterday while receiving Choi Young Joo, chairman of the association and head of its delegation to the country.

Sang went on to praise the commendable strategic partnership that the two countries have built up in the past 20 years. South Korea is the top investor in Viet Nam, and the two countries will soon hold negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement.

With more than 100,000 South Koreans living in Viet Nam and nearly 70,000 Vietnamese women married to South Korean men, the two countries share many cultural and social similarities, Sang said.

Chairman Choi Young Joo said the association would organize more events to recognize the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Viet Nam – Republic of Korea diplomatic relations. He also praised the investment environment in Viet Nam and affirmed that members of the association would make efforts to promote positive images of Viet Nam's people and country and encourage more South Korean businesses to invest in Viet Nam. — VNS
