Vietnam National Assembly questions Cabinet Members

The National Assembly began question and answer sessions on the Government’s performance on November 12 presided by Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung. Minister of Industry and Trade, Vu Huy Hoang, was the first to appear at the session. He was questioned by 23 deputies from 19 cities, and provinces. Room to expand Vietnam’s economic ties with Macedonia

HA NOI (VNS)— President Truong Tan Sang called on Viet Nam and Macedonia to expand commercial and economic co-operation while receiving Nokola Poposki, Macedonia’s Foreign Minister yesterday. During the meeting, Sang said both countries could work closer together in these areas to reach their fullest potentials. The two countries signed an economic and commercial co-operation agreement in 2005, however, bilateral economic and trade exchanges remain low at between US$1-2 million per year. Thousands of plant and animal genes preserved in Vietnam

HA NOI (VNS)– Viet Nam has preserved more than 14,000 genetic samples of 200 different plant species, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology. The conserved plants include different varieties such as rice, fruit, medicinal plants and industrial trees. By applying different methods, the scientists have saved 42 forest trees and trees used for paper production along with 26 medicinal herbs from extinction. Scientists from the ministry have selected 30 rice genetic resources, five vegetables, three taro and two flower varieties carrying typical local features. Soaring rice exports fail to benefit farmers Le Hung Vong (VNS) Notwithstanding the good news that Viet Nam may become the world’s No 1 rice exporter, shipping some 7.7 million tonnes this year, farmers remain unhappy because the profits from the grain are much lower this year compared to last.
