Nov 8: Vietnam Stocks Close Mixed, Liquidity Drains

Vietnamese shares closed in a mixed note today as heavy weighs buoyed the primary bourse but losses were seen in the smaller cap bourse in the North.

The benchmark VN Index gained 4.7 points or 1.23% to 385.6. Volume fell 25.23%to 23.3 million shares worth of VND364.5 billion.

Put through trading contributed 2.4 million shares worth of VND71.2 billion.

Today’s market breadth turned negative on the primary bourse where 88 stocks advanced, 116 declined, 67 closed unchanged.

The VN30 rose 4.95 points or 1.1%, to 455.78. Among its 30 members 17 gained, 5 lost the ground and 8 unchanged.

VN Index opened in the red with 1.3 million shares changed hands. Trading was slow and in caution. The majority of shares on the bourse were traded in the negative territory but heavy weighs were strong which buoyed the market. VNIndex closed at the high of the day.

Heavy weighs such as BVH, CTG, MSN, VCB, VIC were all gainers of which BVH, VCB limited up. VNM bucked trend to close lower.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX lost 0.5 point or 0.97% to 51.08.

Trading volume fell 27.6% to 22.4 million shares worth VND135.8 billion.

The market breadth turned negative where 58 rallied, 104 declined, 79 closed unmoved and the rest untraded.

The HNX30 lost 1.46 points or 1.56% to 91.69. Of its 30 members, 1 rallied, 19 declined, 10 closed unmoved.

Sai Gon Thuong Tin Real Estate JSC (SCR) was the most active with 5.2 million shares traded, closing down 7% to VND4,000 each on average.

Saigon - Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) ranked second with 2.5 million shares traded, closing down 2% to VND4,800 on average.
